Psychotherapy FAQ
What is your rate and how long are psychotherapy sessions?
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes and are $180 per session.
All sessions are conducted online via a HIPAA compliant video conferencing platform.
Do you take insurance?
I don't accept health insurance. However, I do work as an out-of-network provider and some insurance plans will provide out-of-network coverage.
Should you wish to use an insurance policy for therapy, it is your responsibility to contact your insurance company to inquire about specific coverage for out-of-network benefits for mental health services.
Please note that most insurance companies require the treating provider to give a psychiatric diagnosis in order to reimburse for mental health counseling. I can provide a superbill for you to mail to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Any diagnosis made will become part of your permanent insurance records.
How frequently will we meet?
I meet with my clients on a weekly basis for a few reasons.
Research shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is the single most important factor in healing. It is difficult to build a foundational and meaningful relationship seeing each other less frequently than once a week.
The type of work that I do with my clients is deep and relational. I help my clients make fundamental shifts in the way they view themselves and the world around them, how they show up for and care for themselves, and how they show up in their relationships. I help my clients heal childhood and intergenerational trauma. This kind of work is complex and requires time.
In therapy we are working to rewire the brain, to create and then strengthen new, more adaptive neural pathways. These kinds of lasting brain changes can only be accomplished through consistency and repetition over time. When therapy is attended less frequently than once a week, these changes are difficult to achieve.
How long can I expect to be in therapy?
6 months to a year. Possibly longer depending on the issues you are hoping to address and how deep you'd like to go.
Therapy is a radical act of self-care. It's a gift to yourself. An hour a week that's devoted 100% to you and your emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. It's a commitment and investment of the best kind--one that keeps on giving for the rest of your life.
Ultimately, you are the one that gets to decide how long you choose to remain in therapy. You are free to step away at any time, and I will always trust your timing and process.
How will I pay?
After you book a free 15 minute phone consultation and we decide we're a good fit to work together, you'll log in to my HIPPA compliant client portal to sign paperwork and upload a credit card to keep on file. Your card on file will automatically be charged in the morning on the day of your appointments.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
I do not currently offer a sliding scale. If you cannot afford my services at this time, Open Path Collective is a good resource for finding clinicians in your area who offer a sliding scale.
What are you're areas of specialty?
I specialize in working with Complex PTSD and adult survivors of childhood trauma. I work best with adults who are struggling with low self-worth, shame, anxiety, perfectionism, codependency, and body image issues. I have special training in working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and survivors of narcissistic abuse.
I also have personal and/or professional experience with the following issues:
