COUNSELING
SERVICES

I am not currently accepting new counseling clients at this time. If you are interested in working with me please look at my Holistic Life Coaching page and/or contact me for a free 20 minute consultation.

The process of finding a new therapist, or taking the leap to try therapy for the first time, can be a daunting process, especially if you are already struggling in some way.

Although it can take some time and effort, it is well worth your while to find a therapist that is a good fit for your individual needs.

So, what exactly should you look for when trying to find a new therapist?

I believe that finding the right therapist is largely an intuitive process. In other words, listen to your gut. Someone may look great on paper, and your mind might be listing off all the reasons why they should be the best fit for you, but if when physically in their presence you don't feel at ease, not even the longest list of credentials will change that.

You should feel comfortable. Your therapist needs to be someone that you want to talk to, and someone that (despite the pain of what you are going through) you feel at ease around. And even though psychotherapy can, at times, be painful simply because we are often engaging and facing difficult emotions, memories, etc., going to appointments, for the most part, should feel positive. You should leave feeling supported and less alone than when you got there.

Sounds pretty simple, right? And it is, except we are often discouraged from listening to our intuition. And because we live in a culture where we are taught to trust the "professionals" more than ourselves, it can be difficult to tap into that inner compass. Trust yourself in this process. And if at any time you you decide to change course, trust that too.

A safe, supportive space for self-exploration. Discover and learn to trust your intuition. Gain insight into limiting patterns and core-beliefs. Cultivate deeper levels of self-awareness and learn to express your truth. Explore what's working for you, as well as what's not. In individual sessions I meet clients with a compassionate balance of both support and challenge, and tailor my approach to meet each person's unique needs.

Intimate relationships are often profound teachers and incredibly rewarding, but anyone who's in one will also tell you that they take effort, attention, and commitment to sustain and nourish. No relationship is without it's challenges and conflicts, and sometimes it's helpful to have space to process and address concerns. Even the healthiest of unions can benefit from a little extra care and attention.

There is nothing more devastating than losing someone that you love. Add in the cultural pressures on the bereaved to "move on," and grieving often quickly becomes an incredibly isolating and lonely experience. Everyone grieves in their own way and in their own time. In grief counseling with me the goal will not be to make your grief "go away"--as this is not really possible, or even desirable--but rather to help you learn to navigate the natural waves that come and go, without feeling as if you are drowning.
"It is an absolute human certainty that no one can know his own beauty or perceive a sense of his own worth until it has been reflected back to him in the mirror of another loving, caring human being." - John Joseph Powell
